    Responsible for the planning and management of sustainable forestry practices of all phases of the assigned area's harvesting, property management and forestry operations. Responsible for safety, log sales, stumpage sales, forest regeneration and silvicultural treatments, fire protection and suppression, wildlife habitat management.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (other duties may be assigned)

    • Manages area's foresters including directing work, staffing, and performance management.

    • Assures a safe workplace. Ensures ongoing safe behaviors through implementation and active participation in the company safety program with a goal of no time-loss accidents. Develops, implements, and facilitates safety elements to support the respective Injury and Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP).

    • Prepares and executes annual budgets.

    • Provides accurate planning information on marketing methods, capacity, projects, and log sales information.

    • Accurately determines and justifies log values.

    • Responsible for preparation and execution of annual forest regeneration and silviculture plans.

    • Implements continuous improvement program to enhance forest productivity and optimize forest management expense.

    • Ensures compliance with Sustainable Forestry Initiative requirements; internal policies and procedures; and federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

    • Maintains a working relationship with representatives of key regulatory agencies to ensure the ongoing success of an adequate inventory of approved harvest plans.

    • Represents the Company's interest in appropriate industry association activities, as well as in the marketplace.

    • Manages and controls credit according to requirements of each log sale transaction. Keeps customers within agreed-upon credit limits working closely with finance to monitor account receivables.

    • Utilizes good communication and negotiation skills when interaction with members of the community is required.

    • Leads annual harvest planning and logging activities ensuring that quarterly plans are met.

    • Responsible for log marketing and customer relations. Leads the negotiation of stumpage sales and delivered log prices, monitors production, quality and delivery relative to agreed-upon terms, consistent with producing maximum log value and return.

    • Maintains strong relationships with existing customers, ensures timely performance of volume and quality commitments, and develops new relationships to foster a competitive pricing environment.

    • Provides short and long-term log price forecasts.

    • Manages the annual harvest plan updates. maximizes capacity efficiency, and provides accurate production information and log sales forecasts.

    • Participates in economic analyses of various silvicultural, harvesting and marketing activities and projects.

    • Maintains knowledge of regional product/species preference and usage, transportation, as well as manufacturing capabilities' impact on log usage in the identification of favorable market opportunities. Anticipates demands, considers future harvest levels.

    • Manages harvest unit sequence changes to assure current harvest while managing adjacencies to increase future harvest.


    • Bachelor's Degree in Forest Management, Natural Resources Management, or a related field, or the equivalent combination of education, training, or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

    • Ten years of progressively responsible timberland management positions.

    • Travel within and outside the United States is expected as required by project needs and job duties.

    • Project work may require outdoor field assignments and exposure to manufacturing related environments.

    • In-depth knowledge of the forest products industry including forest management, harvesting, product manufacturing and marketing.

    • Familiar with regional and timber basin supply and demand analysis.

    • Knowledge of investment evaluation methodologies, preferably specific to forest economic concepts and timberland valuations.

    • Advanced computer skills including complex financial modeling, database design concepts and presentation software expertise.

    • Ability to create and maintain a diverse, ethical and respectful workplace.

    • Normal office environment with moderate noise levels, occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs., regular walking, sitting, bending, twisting, standing and reaching.

    • Regular trips out into operations to meet with employees and maintain visibility, requiring ability to drive and walk in/on forested areas, across uneven terrain, and unpaved roads.

    • Ability to perform consistent work on PC.
