    What You'll Be Doing

    Job Scope: Generally be responsible for performing all aspects for complete designs of small and large electrical and instrumentation engineering assignments using theoretical knowledge and practical design methods. This work will be performed under general supervision at an industrial facility in the Mobile County area.

    Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

    • Develop detailed design of automation and process control systems that integrate PCs, PLCs, AC or DC Drives, position controllers, single or multi-loop controllers

    • Integrate statistical control components into system design including basic control charting, real time & historical trending, remote monitoring, and data acquisition / control

    • Develop, install, and debug control system programming including PC operating, PC / Server / PLC communications, PLC HMI and/or specialty component software

    • Lead and/or guide internal or external engineering resources to ensure adherence to project goals and objectives

    • Implement standard engineering and project management practices consistently throughout project and work assignments

    • Maintain technical skills and knowledge; investigate new equipment applications with in-house and with consulting engineers & equipment venders, and specific course work

    • Lead development and training efforts of field operation and maintenance personnel in the design features, process operation, interpretation of system information, and application of that information regarding control system functionality

    • Witness testing and system site quality control

    • Train plant electricians on processes, process controls and instruments

    • Monitor installation quality.

    • Moderate to frequent travel during plant construction requiring a flexible schedule.

    Ideal Background

    Education: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university is preferred. Relevant industrial experience and/or training will be applicable for consideration.

    Experience: This position requires 3+ years of relevant industrial experience in electrical and instrumentation engineering. Industrial experience supporting needs on-site is preferred. Additional experience supporting Controls needs and working with platforms such as Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens is preferred.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Knowledge and application of the current version of the National Electrical Code (NEC).

    • Familiarity with specifications and installation details of construction bulk materials and equipment.

    • Ability to perform lighting level calculations.

    • Ability to size wire, conduit and overcurrent protection for both lighting and power applications.

    • Ability to perform voltage drop calculations.

    • Ability to route conduit and cable tray.

    • Ability to calculate tray and conduit fill.

    • Ability to determine motor control center loading.

    • Ability to create accurate electrical installation documents from the information found on vendor equipment drawings.

    • Ability to determine load center unit substation loading.

    • (Instrumentation) Ability to size control valves using appropriate software.

    • (Instrumentation) Ability to develop specifications and data sheets for instrumentation, analyzers, control systems and actuated valves.

    • (Instrumentation) Familiarity with standards that apply to instrumentation and controls (ISA).

    • Ability to develop equipment specifications for equipment such as motor control centers, variable frequency drivers, induction and synchronous motors, load center unit substations.

    • Knowledge and understanding of schedule constraints and information requirements for the production of all electrical deliverables.

    • Ability to develop a construction cost estimate, a detailed engineering schedule and a man-hour budget for a small project or an area for a larger project.

    • Ability to determine construction material quantities.

    • Knowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards.

    • Working knowledge of CAD software, either AutoCAD, Microstation or both.

    • Experience supporting control systems/software such as Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens.

    • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

    • Good presentation skills.

    • Virtual team skills and cross divisional relationships are developed and able to provide interoffice execution support with general supervision.

    Physical Requirements

    • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
