    Hourly Wage $16.75

    The Environmental Intern will assist Environmental and Compliance staff with compliance monitoring activities associated with Dairyland's generation facilities and coal ash landfills. This will include, but not be limited to, biological and surface water monitoring at the Alma and FHS sites. Additional work will include assisting with Dairyland's environmental stewardship program and in Dairyland's Chemical Services laboratory as well as field work related to the environmental permitting of Dairyland's transmission projects. The position will include field data collection, entry, and database management.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

    Education & Experience : Completion of two (2) years in environmental or biology program. Prefer classes in aquatic biology, limnology, and basic chemistry.

    Skills : Must possess mechanical skills and be able to operate a small motorboat. Ability to trailer boats desirable. Must have knowledge of environmental sampling equipment, e.g., pH meters, flow meters, conductivity meters, DO meters, etc. Must have knowledge of computers, e.g. word processing, spreadsheet, database management, etc.

    Licenses and Certifications : Valid Driver's License.

    Physical Demands : The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. to load and unload the truck and boat. Must be able to swim. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

    Environmental Demands : Some time is spent outdoors, occasionally around dust and mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards and extreme noise. Ability to work in inclement weather and walk on uneven terrain. May include travel to Alma, Genoa, and Ladysmith including some overnights. Ability to work independently of supervision.
