    Job Description:

    Traffic and ITS Design Engineer - Transportation Infrastructure -California (hybrid and remote work allowed)

    Overview:

    Parsons has an exciting job opportunity for a Traffic and ITS Design Engineer to join our dynamic transportation infrastructure team in California. This role can be based in California or adjoining state.

    In this role, you will be engaged in traffic related and intelligent transportation systems design work and contribute to the successful project delivery for a diverse range of projects in California and the western US. The engineer is at an intermediate or senior level, being trained under close supervision in the utilization of engineering theories and practices while gaining exposure to company and industry procedures. You will be part of a team which primarily supports Caltrans projects and works on various projects with the regional transportation planning agencies, counties, cities, and transit agencies. The position is office based but offers a hybrid model.

    Responsibilities:

    • Under the guidance of a more senior engineer or project manager, perform various traffic engineering and intelligent transportation systems design assignments requiring the application of engineering techniques, procedures and design criteria for projects ranging in size and complexity.

    • PS&E engineering and CAD support services

    • Fiber optical communications installation design

    • Conduct traffic systems and signaling analysis utilizing tools such as Synchro and microsimulation such as Vissim

    • Conduct and assist with ITS / connected vehicle design, signal timing optimization, traffic operational and safety studies, traffic modeling, signal designs, and develop drawings for traffic signals, signing and pavement markings for transportation projects.

    • Perform traffic impact studies for new developments.

    • Conduct field activities such as traffic counts, traffic observations, origin destination studies.

    • Utilize drafting and 3D modeling software, tools, and programs, to develop conceptual and detailed designs.

    • Perform basic geometric alignments and design for various road and highway projects, inclusive of intersection upgrades, traffic signal designs, and the ramp improvements.

    • Perform design calculations including material quantity takeoffs and construction cost estimates.

    • Assist in the production and modification of design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans and specifications for assigned projects.

    • Assist in the preparation of detailed requisitions for material purchase, services, and subcontracts.

    • Assist in reviewing supplier drawing submittals and technical bid analyses.

    • Lead the design and / or provide input a to CAD Designer/Drafters working on the same project

    • Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (or related field)

    • Five years or more of related work experience

    • Professional Engineer (PE) Registration

    Skills and Competencies:

    • Proficiency in utilizing AutoCAD Civil3D, MicroStation Geopak and/or InRoads, is preferred.

    • Technical writing, computer and communications skills required.

    • Experience in use of traffic engineering software such as HCS, Synchro / SimTraffic, Sidra or Arcady, and microsimulation (Vissim, Aimsun, and /or TransModeler)

    • Strong abilities and experience in data analysis including development and use of data bases (e.g., MS Access) and GIS software such as ArcGIS or QGIS.

    • Experience in development or implementation of traffic signal timing coordination / time-space diagrams.

    • Excellent written and verbal skills, with the ability to clearly present information graphically.

    • Strong interpersonal, organizational and time management skills.

    • Strong listening skills with the ability to learn and help other staff and stakeholders arrive at a common goal.

    • A self-starter, comfortable working in a multidisciplinary team environment and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.

    • Ability to prioritize and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines.

    Salary Range

    $68,400.00 - $142,600.00
