    Astronics-PECO, located in picturesque Clackamas, Oregon near the foothills of Mt. Hood, designs, certifies, manufactures, and sells a wide range of products to commercial, government, and military markets throughout the world. Our highly engineered interior and structural aerospace products are supplied to the largest aircraft manufacturers and are installed in aircraft around the globe, and our military products are used in critical national defense applications. The Max-Viz enhanced visions systems (EVS) are designed and certified for use as an improvement to safety by a vast array of airplanes, helicopters, and unmanned-aerial-vehicles in the commercial, government, and military marketplace. PECO-Controls are well established temperature control devices designed for applications where high quality is a must, such as the hospitality industry, commercial cooking, and other critical applications.

    We are looking for a Manufacturing Engineering Manager to join our team. In this role you will plan and direct all aspects of manufacturing Engineering activities within the facility. In this position you will lead a team to drive increased efficiencies and improved manufacturing yield via process improvements and lean activities in accordance with product specifications and quality standards. You will work with cross functional teams to ensure engineering projects, initiatives and processes conform with organizational policies and objectives.

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Provide engineering expertise in the areas of manufacturing processes, automation, LEAN, tooling, prints, specifications, product maintenance, and raw materials.

    • Responsible for leading all manufacturing engineering aspects of the operation to include modeling lean transformation, employee engagement, team development, ensuring rapid implementation of decisions, budget development and adherence, as well as managing employee performance.

    • Contribute as an essential member of the manufacturing management leadership team to ensure daily adherence to manufacturing processes and continuous improvement of the processes to improve Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Inventory metrics as well as shorten lead times.

    • Responsible for maintaining and improving all factory processes and related metrics to include production efficiency, cycle times, capacity, capabilities, and others as needed.

    • Work closely with production and support teams to implement improvements to production processes, methods, and controls, including production flow, assembly methods and production equipment.

    • Coordinate manufacturing launch for new or revised products including establishing goals, training, and evaluating results.

    • Accurately develops and maintains bills of materials and manufacturing plans.

    • Performs product/process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement, and improved efficiency.

    • Design, develop, test, and/or sources and cost-justifies various tools, machinery, and equipment for recommended manufacturing methods.

    • Work in direct communication with customers and suppliers.

    • Travel to customers and suppliers to support projects.

    • Coordinate new tooling and die deliveries and or repairs.

    • Perform and document time studies.

    • Attend Quality Manual Standards Training and applies Quality Standards accordingly.

    • Observe safety and security procedures and reports potentially unsafe conditions; uses equipment and materials properly.

    Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or manufacturing Engineering or equivalent; advanced degree preferred.

    • Five years or more of related experience and/or training.

    • Leadership: a demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others.

    • Planning: an ability to think ahead and plan over a 1 - 2 year time span.

    • Management: the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.

    • Problem analysis and problem resolution at both strategic and functional level.

    • Ability to read technical/engineering drawings and blueprints.

    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, employees, and the general public.

    • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have strong computer skills including proficiency with MS Office applications, Program Management Software and CAD.

    • Expertise in Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing techniques.

    • Experience with automation projects.

    • Experience in Aerospace and/or Defense markets preferred.

    • Strong project management skills including the ability to guide and direct personnel.

    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

    • Employee training and development.
