    We're looking for a Mechanical Engineer in the Electronics business unit based in the Portland, OR metro area who is excited about working on projects that enable the heart of our clients' business. Join us and you'll have the chance to work on projects at some of the world's most state of the art industrial and commercial facilities. You'll be accountable for schedule and technical quality of challenging engineering tasks, as you gain familiarity with the client's expectations, scope, budget, and schedule. You'll also provide on-site assistance during startup, coordinating work activities with other staff members and the discipline lead. Your multi-discipline, highly interactive team will successfully deliver on the design, development, application, evaluation, recommendation, and specification of engineered systems and products for building HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection Systems.

    This is a hybrid position. Depending on project assignment, this could be largely remote work from home with occasional visits to Jacobs downtown Portland office, or it may be 2-4 days a week on site at a project site in Hillsboro OR.

    Responsibilities

    Responsible for performing all aspects of mechanical engineering and design; independently applies advanced engineering techniques and analysis within the discipline. Develops designs that require innovation and ingenuity. Performs work with little to no supervision, reviews work of discipline team for adequacy on completion. Provides technical guidance to drafters/designers and engineers.

    • Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and adaptation of advanced engineering techniques, procedures, analyses, and criteria for problems and methods.

    • Performs a variety of engineering work in the initial planning and design phase industrial building equipment, systems, or processes.

    • Establishes design criteria in accordance with industry standards

    • Writes scopes of work, estimates time and effort required to perform work, predicts staffing needs, completes staffing matrices, plans the execution of the project from kickoff through construction, completes equipment matrices, drawing list(s), etc.

    • Prepares specifications and provides input to define necessary subcontracts and requisitions.

    Skills

    • Has deep knowledge of multiple subject areas or disciplines as well as a thorough understanding of business objectives, priorities, and strategy for own area, and understands industry practices and competitors.

    • Requires extensive progressive experience in general building science, construction, and engineering.

    • Demonstrated ability to identify various options to solve technical problems, describe pros and cons of each option, present options/findings to entire internal design team as well as client technical staff (engineers, architects, operations, etc.)

    • Has successfully acted as design engineer in all areas of discipline

    • Successfully acts (or acting) as discipline lead on multi-discipline project

    Here's what you'll need :

    • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering

    • At least 4 years of practical application of mechanical engineering design in building systems, such as HVAC, fire protection, plumbing, and construction

    • Effective verbal and written communication skills

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

    • Forward thinking, eager to learn best practices, and contribute with innovative ideas

    • Displayed ability to learn quickly and driven to broaden knowledge base

    • Ability to collaborate and work effectively in a variety of teams, including multi-disciplinary teams from preliminary design through site construction

    • Passion for buildings and construction

    Ideally, you'll also have:

    • Professional Engineer (PE) registration in the state of Oregon (or the ability to obtain a PE in the next 3-6 months)

    • Experience with cleanrooms, semiconductor, or high-tech industrial facility design

    • At least 5 years of experience building mechanical design and construction

    • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit software, with prior experience with Navisworks

    • History of excellent client and contractor interaction and support

    • Prior field experience at industrial construction sites
