    TITLE: Faculty-Nursing FLSA Status: Exempt

    DEPARTMENT: Nursing

    GENERAL SUMMARY

    The purpose of this position is to assist the College in fulfilling its mission by facilitating student acquisition of the required knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary for success in the student's chosen career in health sciences.

    FERPA SECURITY COMPLIANCE

    Incumbent has access to confidential information related to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99), a Federal law that protects the privacy of student education records and must comply with the terms of the law as it applies to their job role.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Provides teaching, supervision and evaluation of student learning experiences.

    • Provides individual advisement and guidance for intellectual and professional development of students.

    • Collaborates with other faculty, preceptors, field faculty, and clinical agencies to provide optimum learning opportunities for students.

    • Develops, implements and revises course content in a limited subject area.

    • Serves as a mentor to new or inexperienced faculty as appropriate.

    • Participates in scholarly activities (e.g., grant writing, research, college projects, publications, creative teaching strategies).

    • Participates in and seeks out quality improvement opportunities.

    • Contributes to policy formation for the College and/or program.

    • Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

    • Master's degree in nursing.

    • Two years' experience working in a clinical environment.

    • Current and valid RN Iowa licensure.

    • Demonstrated ability in managing, leading or training others.

    • Demonstrated ability to utilize appropriate, varied and innovative classroom/clinical/field teaching

    strategies.

    • Doctorate degree preferred.

    PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS: (Constant = 67%-100% of workday, Frequent = 34%-66% of

    workday, Occasional = 33% or less of workday)

    CONSTANT

    • Sight, hearing, talking, sitting, and the use of gross and fine motor skills.

    FREQUENT

    • Walking, standing, lifting, twisting, bending, stooping, and feeling.

    PHYSICAL DEMAND REQUIREMENTS

    • Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force

    frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Use of arm and/or leg

    controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of

    the time.

    VISUAL ACUITY REQUIREMENTS

    • Required usage of computer terminal, extensive reading and deciphering of detailed materials and

    recognition of persons at a distance.

    INTELLECTUAL/EMOTIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Ability to adapt to constant change from one task to another, possibly of a different nature, without

    loss of efficiency or composure.

    • Ability to perform under stress when confronted with an unusual, dangerous, or emergency

    situation, or in situations when working speed and sustained attention are crucial.

    • Must function efficiently under demanding time frames.

    • Ability to maintain a high standard of courtesy and cooperation in dealing with students and coworkers

    despite the stress of the office work environment.

    EQUIPMENT/TOOLS:

    • Computer, photocopier, typewriter, telephone, fax machine, audiovisual equipment.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    • The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical

    office work).

    REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

    • Reports to Dean of Nursing.
