    Job Description

    This is an exciting opportunity in Indianapolis for a Plant Supplier Quality Engineer.

    Key Job Elements

    • Offers support as a liaison between the plant community, Purchasing, Engineering, the rest of Operations, and suppliers to contain, identify, and resolve supplier quality issues and to provide technical support.

    • Coordinates containment activities to minimize supplied part quality impact to the plants.

    • Provides, as needed, support for formal 8D containment, root cause, and corrective action documentation.

    • Coordinates supplier scheduling of formal 8D report outs either at Allison or via teleconference. (Note: 8D is a standard automotive industry problem solving methodology)

    • Supports investigation of supplier quality problems and coordinates implementation of effective and timely resolutions.

    • Assures accurate and timely records are maintained within various systems, including Supplier Quality Notifications and SAP ERP.

    • Works with the global supplier quality organization to drive corrective action to closure for supplied part issues.

    • Supports plant supplier cost recovery requests

    • Ensures required supplier quality documentation is organized and retained according to corporate guidelines.

    • Summarizes, reports, and presents audit results.

    • Implements and monitors part conformance.

    • Monitors supplier performance and reports results to management.

    • Posts, calculates, and analyzes routine statistical data.

    • Manages ongoing relationships and resolves conflicts as needed.

    • Adheres to corporate purchasing policies and procedures.

    • Maintains a physical presence in the workplace.

    • Works under general supervision.

    • Exercises judgment related to supplied part quality issues.

    • Oral and written communication skills - ability to communicate orally and in written format in cross-functional environments.

    • Knowledge of statistical quality control techniques.

    • Knowledge of manufacturing and assembly plant processes.

    • Knowledge of gaging techniques and MSA.

    • Proficient interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.

    • Knowledge of geometric design and tolerancing (GD&T).

    • Relatively high level of analytical ability where problems are complex.

    • Collaboration in a variety of work settings.

    • Familiar with a variety of Purchasing / Global Supply Chain concepts.

    • Wide degree of creativity and latitude.

    • Knowledge of manufacturing or automotive quality standards.

    • Ability to organize, plan, document tasks, and prioritize work.

    • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

    Required Qualifications/Education/Skills

    Candidate Qualifications

    • 0-2 or more years of experience in the field or in a related area.

    • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering/Mech. Engineering Technology (or equivalent)

    Additional Preferred Candidate Qualifications

    • Experience in heavy duty automotive industry

    • Familiar with SAP software

    • Working knowledge of AIAG standards - APQP, Control Plans, FMEA, PPAP, SPC, and MSA.

    • Working knowledge of the automotive industry 8D problem solving tool.
