    As a Computational Linguist in the Machine Learning & Optimization team, you are an integral part of the group that optimizes features, models and AI capabilities for the Chase Digital Assistant and other conversational AI products. You are responsible for acting as the voice of the customer and developing a robust and scalable intent taxonomy to enable conversation dialogue and understanding, as well as a process and methodology for conducting conversation analysis.

    Utilizing your deep understanding of computational linguistics, Natural Language Understanding principles and AI-driven chatbot development, you will help guide the successful launch of conversational and model enhancements, gather crucial feedback, and ensure top-tier customer experiences. With a strong commitment to scalability, resiliency, and stability, you collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality models, tooling and innovative approaches.

    You will also manage, coach and mentor other linguists on the team.

    Job responsibilities

    • Manage intent and entity taxonomy and alignment with cross-functional teams across the organization.

    • Work closely with Product Managers, ML Engineers and Analytics by providing linguistic expertise and direction for new NLP capabilities (e.g., dialogue, ambiguity, inference)

    • Partners closely with Annotation Lead to review and optimize training data and enable meaningful and measurable outcomes.

    • Manages conversational analysis in close partnership with Analytics team to identify patterns, anomalies, opportunities for improvement, leveraging conversation analysis methodologies

    • Design extended analytic frameworks and semantic representations to support richer NLU models.

    • Identify new testing opportunities and conversational strategies

    • Develops and maintains documentation on Natural Language Understanding processes, guidelines and best practices

    • Manages other linguists and conversation analysts

    Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

    • 5+ years of experience in working in Computational Linguistics or Natural Language Processing, specifically within context of chatbot development or related AI applications.

    • Background in linguistic analysis, especially syntax, semantics and/or pragmatics

    • Advanced knowledge of conversational AI product development life cycle, training, design, and conversation analysis

    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

    Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

    • Master's or PhD in computational Linguistics, Data Science or related fields.

    • Experience working with Generative AI and LLMs

    • Demonstrated prior experience working in a highly matrixed, complex organization
