    Job Description

    Primary Purpose of Role

    The Factory Controls Engineering department develops technical & design specifications for equipment, production tests, and oversees the implementation of new equipment to ensure the business unit's requirements are met and follow the company's standards.

    The Senior Robotics Controls Engineer will support all Allison operations' maintenance, quality, and production personnel in the troubleshooting of functional problems and guide maintenance activities to eliminate functionality issues of equipment and systems throughout the entire company, including worldwide facilities. The engineer will design and guide installation activities to retrofit and improve functionality of existing equipment and systems. The engineer will apply Allison's specifications which are based on ISO-10218/ANSI-RIA R15 standards for robotic/automation cells and ensure integration is successful.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Review and update system specifications to ensure that new equipment meets business requirements.

    • Review machine quotes, prints, approval drawings, and control logic programming to ensure adherence to specifications and process requirements.

    • Participate in equipment build process and runoffs to ensure proper system function and adherence to specifications.

    • Create, write, and optimize robotic programs from concept to completion.

    • Create, write, and optimize robot guiding vision programs.

    • Create PLC and HMI programs.

    • Create new and optimize existing robotic operations throughout the manufacturing campus to ensure safe and efficient operation of work being performed.

    • Develop, procure, implement, and support infrastructure systems that will be used to communicate between factory floor equipment and business systems.

    • Lead training of peer engineers, maintenance, quality, and production personnel responsible for supporting equipment operations.

    • Based on business need a candidate will assist, support and/or perform other job functions within department.

    • Support continuous improvement activities within manufacturing processes.

    • Investigate system trends and suggest modifications that provide business benefit.

    • Make program changes to improve efficiency of current processes.

    • Able to work independently as well as in a group/team environment as needed.

    Competencies & Behaviors:

    • Good interpersonal oral and written communications skills.

    • Ability to use PC and job-related software/programs for programming, design, and documentation.

    • Knowledge of Fanuc DCS as applied to both cell guarding and operator interaction/collaborative work zones.

    • Ability to diagnose/troubleshoot controls system when required, regardless of having prior knowledge or experience.

    • Ability to train and mentor peer engineers and qualified skilled trades personnel.

    • Project management skills and experience involving complex projects.

    • Willingness to be on call on a rotational basis; approximately 3-4 weekends a year.

    • Willingness to work occasional weekends and holidays as project work requires.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree: Electrical Engineering/Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering Technology, Robotics Engineering Technology, Mechatronics Engineering Technology, or equivalent work experience required.

    Experience

    • 5+ years of working experience with robotic cell integration and programming.

    • Extensive experience with Fanuc robotics programming.

    • Experience programming with Allen-Bradley PAC/PLC control systems.

    • Experience programming of Allen-Bradley HMIs.

    • Experience with device communication networks including Allen-Bradley DH+, Ethernet IP, etc.
