Senior Accountant

A client of ours is looking for a Senior Accountant for a contract to hire role. As the Senior Accountant you will be responsible for utilizing, maintaining, and enhancing financial reporting processes around actual results, forecast, budget and historical results in a changing systems environment by accessing information from disparate sources and incorporating into various reports. Additionally, responsibilities include General Ledger, checking account, and financial statement reconciliation.

Responsibilities of Senior Accountant

• Provide financial business planning, analysis, and forecasting support as assigned.

• Collaborate with business stakeholders to perform financial planning analysis and performance reporting (i.e., developing budgets, annual operating plan/budget, and compiling performance reports) for captive insurance companies.

• Facilitate audits by the IRS and various state insurance regulators

• Design, implement and update technology to translate financial and insurance data into actionable information tailored to the needs of audiences ranging from captive owners, to state insurance regulators to the IRS.

• Perform all aspects of the monthly financial close for various entities including preparation of financial statements and related analysis.

• Oversee the day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general ledger activities

• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements

• Supporting and perform day to day general ledger functions, including creating journal entries as needed, and accounting for cash receipts and disbursements.

• Work with sales teams to model potential new client opportunities as skills develop and allow

• Assist external CPA's in preparing audited financial statements and tax returns

Requirements

Skills/Qualifications of Senior Accountant

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; MBA preferred.

• 5+ years' experience in accounting and FP& A responsibilities

• CPA and prior experience in a public accounting

• Fundamental understanding of GAAP and federal income tax accounting

• Experience in financial statement preparation, financial analysis, and forecasting

• Advanced skills with Microsoft Excel (KEY SKILL). This includes model creation and maintenance, working with large sets of data, nested formulas, logical functions, dynamic arrays, data visualization, etc. Familiarity with VBA a plus

• Manage multiple tasks with strong organizational skills.

• Ability to work independently with limited supervision as well as work collaboratively within accounting group and across multiple companies

• Expertise with QuickBooks a plus

• Strong analytic ability with the aptitude to identify trends and inconsistencies
