Let Laughter Help with Your Job Search

Posted by

One of the free things that can help you be more successful in your job search can be learning how to laugh. There are enough stresses and concerns we place on ourselves as we try to make our transition to a new career. Laughter can help you make that transition so much easier.

Endorphins
A good belly laugh releases endorphins into your system. It makes you feel good! In one study, it was determined that the average 4-year-old laughs up to 80 times per day, while the average 40-year-old laughs only 4 times per day.

What goes wrong? Why do you stop laughing so much? Is life really that bad? Or are you just brain washed into thinking life is something that can only be endured and not thoroughly enjoyed? It's a little like the example of the people who tip toe through life hoping to make it safely to death. They don't want to risk doing anything that they might enjoy too much.

I say laugh as many times as possible per day, laugh deeply, enjoy it thoroughly. It costs nothing and pays much! Norman Cousins called it "internal jogging". It's also been called the "great healer". Laughter is good, very good for you.

Laughter
It can help to mend a broken heart
It can give an old life a brand new start

It can set wrong things right
It can lighten up the darkest night

It can help to you unwind when you feel up-tight
It can stop you from being angry when you feel like a fight

It can make a good day great
And it helps you not mind when you have to wait

Laughter is very, very good for you

Sources for Humor
So where can you find sources for laughter? One place to look is within you. Sometimes, laughing at the things you do can make the difference between feeling incompetent and feeling ok. We all make mistakes. The wise person recognizes he or she is not a mistake but is capable of making one.

Other people who are fun to be around and who have a sense of humor are good sources for laughter. Another source is the comic section of the newspaper. There are some outrageously funny comic strips. Some of the better known comics have been published in books. Check out your local bookstore and get a copy of your favorite cartoon collection.

Reader's Digest is another good place to look for humor. Every month, this magazine has several pages of jokes and humorous situations that have happened to ordinary folks.

Make Humor Part of Your Day
The key here is to make humor part of your day. Have a plan to stimulate yourself to laugh. It will help you grow happier, more relaxed and successful during your job search.
