Questions Your Should Ask at Your Real Estate Interview

Posted by

Whether you are an experienced Real Estate professional or new to the field, deciding which real estate broker you want to work for is one of the biggest decisions you will make. It is important before going on interviews that you have a firm idea of what you need from a broker. Decide if you plan to work full time from the start, or do you want this to be a part time career for now. How much flexibility do you need, and what type of clients are you most interested in assisting.

An interview with a real estate broker is very similar to a traditional job interview. You want to arrive on time, professionally dressed, with a copy of your resume in your hand. The interviewer will want to ask you about your training, your work experience and your specific skill set. In addition to answering the questions they have, you also will want to be sure to ask some questions of your own. Finding out how the broker operates can give you an idea of how well the company will be able to help you meet your needs and also will let you know if you will be a good fit for them.

Here are some questions you should be sure to ask at your real estate interview-

  • Is this company independently owned or a franchise?

  • What training programs and/or continuing education courses are offered? Who pays for them?

  • What are the typical earnings for first year employees?

  • How will you be compensated?

  • What will your expenses be?

  • Are there minimum standards that you will have to meet?

  • Do the agents typically work full-time or part-time?

  • Do the managers handle sales as well?

  • How accessible is the management?

  • Is there a mentorship program in place?

  • What services are available at the office? Are there charges involved with using them?

  • What does the company provide?

  • Are there any programs that will help you transition to their office?

Getting all the information at the beginning will help you make an informed decision about where you want to work, and which opportunity will allow you to meet your goals and grow in your profession. Don't be afraid to ask the hard questions. Employers want to see that the people they decide to add to their team, are people who are willing to pass up a wrong opportunity in order to find the right fit.
